  • Spotlight on Wii U: Multiplayer

    10/04/2013

Our high-definition home console Wii U and its controller – the Wii U GamePad – are all about changing the way you interact with your entertainment, offering up new ways to enjoy streaming video, browse the web and, of course, play games. There are plenty of great experiences for solo players like Batman: Arkham City Armoured Edition and LEGO® CITY Undercover, plus tons of titles that provide all manner of multiplayer mayhem you just won’t find anywhere else! Read on for a quick run-down of the ways to have fun with your mates on Wii U…

In Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate you can join forces with other players to take down enormous beasts together, no additional controllers required! Hook your console up to the Internet and quest with faraway players, or if you’ve got a nearby entourage of willing warriors who own Nintendo 3DS systems, get together in the same room and quest as a team! Up to three players, each with a Nintendo 3DS system and copy of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on Nintendo 3DS can connect to a single Wii U console via local wireless connection, paving the way for plenty of cross-console hunting party fun! Find out more about multiplayer in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

For even more harmonious hijinks, be sure to stop by the Team Attractions in Nintendo Land. Use the GamePad to fire arrows and back up your sword-swinging teammates in The Legend of Zelda: Battle Quest, support players on the ground with some serious aerial firepower in Metroid Blast, or command a squad of small Pikmin while your powerful Mii Pikmin pals pound opponents in Pikmin Adventure. On the other hand, if going head-to-head is more your cup of tea you can also tackle, terrify, or tear after your friends in Competitive Attractions too! All these attractions combine the TV screen with the Wii U GamePad to give you a totally different experience to the other players!

In New Super Mario Bros. U, while four players with Wii Remotes run and jump through the first ever HD Mario game, a fifth can simply tap the GamePad touch screen to stun enemies and place Boost Blocks, giving Mario and friends a helping hand – or landing them in hot water! You can even take on tricky Boost Mode challenges with your friend to see just how tight your teamwork really is!

Need for Speed: Most Wanted U also puts a new spin on multiplayer with its Wii U-exclusive Co-Driver mode. As one player gets behind the wheel and races to outrun the police, a second can use the GamePad to boost the car’s performance, distract pursuing cops and even control the amount of traffic on the road.

All that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to playing together on Wii U. Get everyone on their feet for a night they’ll never forget in SiNG PARTY, play a manager in FIFA 13 and direct up to four players from the sidelines, lay traps and unleash zombies against a second player in ZombiU, destroy giant robot monsters in TANK! TANK! TANK!, and much more!

On top of the stacks of multiplayer titles available right now for Wii U there are plenty more on the way, from the wacky world of Game & Wario to the playful platforming in Rayman Legends. Plus you can keep enjoying many of your favourite Wii multiplayer games as well in the Wii U console’s Wii Mode, and even transfer your save data from Wii to Wii U to pick up where you left off. Find out more about backwards compatibility at the Wii U website.

When it comes to playing together, Wii U has got it all!

Multiplayer modes may require additional accessories, to be purchased separately. Please see each game’s individual page for detailed information on which controllers are supported.
